Why
give Favours/Bomboniere?
The Bride
and Groom are considered to be lucky and there
luck is transferred to anything they touch.
Therefore, Wedding favours are a way for the
Bride and Groom to pass on their 'good luck'
and to thank their guests for sharing in their
happiness and love and for supporting them
in their married life.
Cutting
the cake.
The Bride,
with the Grooms right hand over hers, cuts
the first piece of cake. They break the slice
and eat it together.
A friend or waiter then takes over the slicing
of the cake.
Something
old, something new, something borrowed, something
blue.
Something
Old represents the link with the Brides
family and close friends. A piece of family
jewellery belonging to a parent or grandparent
is a perfect 'something old' item. It can
be pinned inside the dress or attached to
the bouquet. (Don't forget to remove it before
throwing your bouquet at the reception!)
Something
New represents luck and success in
the brides new life. The wedding gown or jewellery
is often chosen as the new item.
Something
Borrowed is to remind the Bride that
family and friends will always be there for
her whenever help is needed. The borrowed
object might be something such as a handkerchief.
Something
Blue is the symbol of faithfulness
and loyalty. Often the blue item is the garter
or it can be combined in on one of the other
items. This could be a 'old' blue brooch or
a 'borrowed' handkerchief with blue embroidery.
Use
of confetti.
Many Churches
and ceremony venues have now decided not to
allow the throwing of confetti in their grounds.
Bubbles are a lovely alternative. Please see
our reception
accessories section for our range of bubbles
for the young and the young at heart.
Guest
book.
Consider a guest
book. Place the book on your gifts table or
have it passed around the reception, table
by table. It will provide lovely memories
and some precious words to look back on over
the years.
Alternative
bridal showers.
The best known
bridal shower is the kitchen tea where everyone
brings a small gift relating to the kitchen.
If your kitchen is already well stocked, here
are some other themes and suggested gift ideas:
Garden
tea - Guests bring flower seeds or
bulbs, colored pots etc.
Recipe
tea - Guests bring favorite recipes
and cooking tips.
Pantry
tea - Specialty food items, teas, jams,
hampers, etc.
Special
friends tea - Friends and family bring
their favorite
food and drink items for your pantry in readiness
for their visits to you as a married couple.
